About VCam: free phone webcam for Windows
VCam is an independent application by EDDY that turns an iPhone or Android phone into a Windows virtual camera. The receiver is installed on the PC; the phone uses its browser. All implemented features are free.
How it works
The Windows app creates a QR code and an eight-character code. Safari or Chrome on the phone opens the connection page and requests camera permission. Pairing information is exchanged through the VCam service; the video stream then travels directly between the devices over encrypted WebRTC. The receiver makes it available as a DirectShow virtual camera for compatible Windows applications.
Video and pairing privacy
VCam does not record or store the video on its server. The server serves the website and handles pairing information. Pairing tokens and codes are stored as hashes, are single-use, and expire after ten minutes. After the devices connect, camera control uses the direct data channel. Hosting infrastructure may process ordinary request metadata to operate the service; this is not a claim that visiting the site transmits no data.
Website statistics
We count page loads and clicks on the Windows installer link to understand which pages help people. Our analytics stores daily totals by public page, entry page and a source category such as Google, Yandex or ChatGPT. It does not store IP addresses, full referring URLs, search queries, camera images or visitor identifiers. No analytics cookies are used. A tab may keep the entry page and source category in session storage for up to 30 minutes. These counts are not unique people, completed downloads or installations; a missing referrer can appear as direct traffic.
Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control are respected. You can also disable future counting in this browser below. The preference itself is stored locally.
Supported use and limitations
Use 64-bit Windows 10/11, Safari on iPhone or Chrome on Android, and one local Wi-Fi network without client isolation. There is no TURN video relay, dedicated USB mode, macOS/Linux receiver or phone audio in the current version. Keep the phone page open and the screen unlocked. OBS and Zoom can select the DirectShow camera; every phone and application combination has not been tested.
Modes and controls depend on the phone and browser. VCam checks available modes rather than guaranteeing 4K60. The installer is a beta and is not yet signed with a publisher certificate. The download counter counts Windows installer downloads across public GitHub releases, including repeat downloads; it is not a count of unique users. It refreshes once a day and keeps the previous verified number if an update fails.
Developer, source and support
VCam is developed by EDDY. Source code is published on GitHub, along with releases and issue tracking. It is independent of iVcam, DroidCam, Camo and Elgato. The guides are written for VCam users by the project developer; they are not independent laboratory reviews. Illustration covers are labeled accordingly.
